School gets new classroom

The people of Koro and Witipe in the Sausso LLG of Yangoru-Saussia, East Sepik, recently witnessed the opening of a new four-in-one classroom at St Vincent’s Koro Primary School.
The classroom was funded by Yangoru-Sausia MP and Trade Commerce and Industry Minister Richard Maru under the district services improvement programme (DSIP) funds.
The classroom cost K150,000.
Head teacher Abraham Sondambui expressed gratitude to Maru for recognising the plight of the children who suffered from not having access to proper learning facilities like classrooms.
Sondambui said some teachers at the school  absconded classes or did not complete their contracts due to no proper roads, houses and classrooms.
“We lived in houses that had leaking roofs and we taught in bush-material classrooms for years,” he said.
“Children walked through muddy tracks to reach the school while basic services were non-existent.”
He said Maru brought changes to the lives of  Sausia LLG people, especially those living in the Sepik Plains.
Sondambui also thanked Maru for the 38km of road from Boim to Witipe that was constructed at a cost of K150,000.
Maru urged the school’s board of management, teachers and students to ensure the school provided excellent academic results.
The opening coincided with the opening of another two-in-one classroom that was funded by the East Yangoru LLG at the cost of K10,000.
The classroom was officially opened by East Yangoru LLG president Geoffrey Waffi.
