School hosts culture show

STUDENTS and staff of the Caritas Technical Secondary School in Port Moresby held a cultural show on Saturday displaying traditional and contemporary items.
School principal Esther Mwayemwana told The National that it was a successful event.
Miss New Ireland Natasha Camble was crowned Miss Tumbuna. Miss West New Britain Georgina Goru was crowned as Miss Charity.
Mwayemwana said funds raised from the show would be used for the school’s scholarship programmes to help students struggling with school fees and to assist the daily operation of the school.
National Training Council director Kinsella Geoffrey said the cultural heritage of our people contained expression of social sensibility such as respect, dignity and honour.
Geoffrey said the world was changing with technology affecting the way people were conducting their operations.
He said it was important that we maintained our cultural traditions and norms in these changing times.
“While it is inevitable that we embrace the western culture and the systems that come with it to benefit and grow and prosper our country, we must not forget our cultural heritage that has been passed from one generation to another from grandparents to us.” said.
“For instance the traditional norms and practices that are embedded in our cultures can be harness to complement the required skills, knowledge, person attribute of position in an organization, or to be part of a member of a project team,” Geoffrey said.
