SECURITY firms operating in confined locations in Goroka and Kainantu towns in Eastern Highlands will become eyes and ears of the police, provincial police commander Superintendent Alex N’Drasal says.
“Police and security companies are serving the common purpose to protect properties and lives, security guards are posted at single locations, they remain static while police are mobile, moving about their designated perimeters every time,” he said.
He said all security firm operators and managers would meet with senior police officers in Goroka and Kainantu towns to establish an agreement to work together to combat law and order issues.
“We will sign a memorandum of agreement to work together through consistent communication between security guards and the police, this would be one of the ways to crack down on criminal activities to address common law and order issues in Kainantu and Goroka towns,” N’Drasal said.
He made this known after locally owned Goroka-based Night Owl Security Services (NOSS) disbanded a group of armed men attempting to rob Bintangor Trading Wholesale at West Goroka in the early hours of last Friday.
NOSS armed squad made a timely intervention as the armed gang members cut open the roof top, entered the building and were about to steal cash and item when the guards intervened. Shots were fired and they left behind a hand grenade and cutting tools they used to cut the roof to get inside.
