Segeyaro and the Kumuls

Letters

JAMES Segeyaro made a blunt statement when he said  he was not happy with PNG Rugby Football League and would not represent the country again.
The next year he represented Australia and played against the very people he turned his back on and eventually got his Australian citizenship.
Currently he is on a one-year NRL contract with the Cronulla Sharks, but his chances of having a long-term future with another NRL club looks slim.
For him to express an interest in playing for PNG again is unacceptable; to PNG rugby league it will be a slap in the face, while giving him a rescue package he desires.
The Kumuls will be playing three games at home during the World Cup and we believe we will win all three.  If the Kumuls win the three games and advance to the quarterfinals then all NRL players in the Kumuls squad  will be graded higher than their NRL team-mates not in the World Cup.  That will lift their status and open doors for better contracts.
We still have our three in-form and loyal hookers – Wartovo Puara Jr, Kurt Baptist and Tony Butterfield – who helped win us the recent Pacific test game against the Cook Islands.
Why bring another hooker to the team?
Yes, Segeyaro is a quality player with NRL experience but I believe it is only right to pick players who have been loyal to the Kumuls and have PNG at heart.
I have no comment on other NRL players putting their hands up to play for PNG.
Go the Kumuls.
