NETBALLERS from around the country will celebrate their Independence anniversary weekend at the National Gaming Control Board national open titles from Friday to Saturday at the Rita Flynn Netball Courts in Port Moresby.
The two-day event will see players and officials converge on Port Moresby for an intense competition between netball giants Port Moresby, Lae and Central with strong competition from others.
Associations expected to attend this event include Jiwaka, Goroka, Madang, Lae, Markham, Kavieng, ENB, WNB, Alotau, Central, Port Moresby, Motu-Koita South, Motu-Koita West and Kairuku-Hiri.
Netball PNG tournament officials expect all affiliated associations to send their best teams to participate in the A grade, B grade and masters divisions.
While most associations travelling into Port Moresby will field at least one team per division, associations within NCD and Central province are expected to field up to three teams per division. The 2016 senior national titles is an important event for players as they get a chance to be seen and considered for selection into the open training squad and to be part of national team’s (Pepes) two-year high performance programme.
The opening ceremony is on Thursday afternoon.
Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko is expected to attend together with the NGCB CEO Imelda Agon and PNG Netball patron Lynda Babao-O’Neill.
