Senior officers undergo training

POLICE supervisors must guide new recruits in their work, Assistant Police Commissioner Peter Guiness says.
He was addressing supervisors during the opening of a week-long competency acquisition programme for police in Lae on Monday.
“I see that there is lack of attention by frontline supervisors to mentor and coach the new pass-outs from the police college on what policing life is all about,” Guiness said.
He said officers were trained on “theory” at the Bomana Police College and the supervisors should handle the “practical” side of their training.
“Most of the time when there is something wrong with those personnel, we start accusing them of not doing what is required,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said the workshop would help their career paths.
“It will give them the sense of direction to where they will want to go after completing the CAP and subsequently confirmed as police constables.”
Chief Inspector John Metu said it was the first time such a refresher training course was held throughout the country.
