Sepik highway deteriorating

THE national highway from Wewak and along the West Coast of East Sepik to Aitape and Vanimo in West Sepik is in critical state.
Flooding and landslips caused by continuous raining in recent weeks have damaged sections of the highway.
A representative of the Green Hill Investments construction company, Leo Kabilo, said the main highway and in the area were not in good condition due to constant flooding and landslides.
He said the Hawain River section of the highway has been reduced to a single lane by the continuous flooding and the Boikin to Balam section has not been fixed although a number of construction companies have worked on it.
“The floods from rivers such as Sowom in Balam and onwards are a nightmare for the travelling public and vehicle owners,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kabilo has appealed to the people living around those areas and travelling the highway to take extra precautions to avoid accidents.
