THE Tourism Promotion Authority has given K50,000 in sponsorship to the Sepik River Crocodile Festival.
Chief executive officer Jerry Agus said the sponsorship was their support to established and recognised cultural festivals around the country.
“TPA is proud to support cultural festivals that continue to enhance and give value to tourism development in the country,” he said.
“The Sepik River Crocodile Festival has grown over the past 10 years and offers unique songs and dances and primitive art forms from the Sepik River region that intrigue tourists from around the world.”
Agus said the TPA sponsorship would pay for the performance fees for the cultural groups and other activities.
Sepik River Crocodile Festival organising committee chairman Alois Mateos thanked the TPA for its support.
It will be held at the Ambunti Station from August 5 to 7.
“TPA has been a major partner to the Sepik River Crocodile Festival and we are overwhelmed by their support as it will go a long way in ensuring we stage a successful festival,” he said.
Mateos said last year’s event saw 250 tourists mainly from Europe attending.
He said local tour operators such as Papua New Guinea-Japan planned to bring in Japanese tourists for the event.
