THE late Sir Michael Ogio had faithfully served the country until his death, despite his illness, according to Bob Dadae, the man to succeed him as Governor-General.
Dadae, pictured, who arrived in Lae from Kabwum yesterday after his final visit to his electorate before taking up the vice-regal post on Feb 28, said he was deeply saddened by the death of Sir Michael.
“I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing,” he told The National.
“His Excellency, without doubt, served this nation with distinction both as a career politician and followed on as ninth governor-general of Papua New Guinea.
“Even in Sir Michael’s struggle against illness,  he never gave up serving his nation until his  unexpected death.
“On behalf of the Kabwum and  Morobe people, and as the governor-general-elect,  I would like to express my heartfelt condolence to his immediate family and the people of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville  at this time of sorrow.”
Parliament recently elected Dadae to take over the post after receiving strong support from the ruling People’s Congress Party.
He beat three other candidates for the post.
