THIRTY youths from a settlement in Port Moresby received certificates from the PNG Life Education Institute last Saturday after two months of life skills training.
PNGLEI principal director Rai Gini said the programmes offered at the institute included sales and marketing, merchandising, purchasing and stock control, personal development and basic business or organisation studies.
Gini said the institute provided training and organised employment for youths with its wide network with companies.
Some of these companies who employee trainees from the institute include Boroko Motors, Rad Tell, Panamax, Electrical Wholesale, Remington Technologies, Nestle Ltd, PNG Air Services and Curtain Brothers.
Out of the 30 who graduated last week, Gini said 12 participants received certificates with job offers.
He said some have decided to start their own small businesses.
Gini urged the Government to support PNGEI with funding to keep the programme running for others who needed a second chance in life. Since its establishment in 20111 the institution has created employment for over 2000 youths in the city.
Female student Deborah Paik said: “This institution is helpful. I learnt a lot and I encourage other youths (to attend it) because provides opportunities.”
Oro Community Development Association project coordinator Petrus Yuanes urged the youths to be self-reliant and not wait for the Government to bring development to their communities but start something themselves.
