Ship captain warns passengers to register names before boarding

IT is important that all passengers boarding vessels must have their names registered on a manifest, Captain Charles Buai of Ramu NiCo Management’s (MCC) ferry mv Carrie says.
Buai issued the warning on Tuesday to passengers boarding the ferried mv Carrie and mv Angel to make sure their names were on the manifest prior to boarding.
He said it was a safety regulation which the MCC through its corporate and administration department was practising to conform to safety regulation.
“Although it is a safety regulation, it is also a check-list which could be referred to later in an event of disaster,” Buai explained.
“As a reminder and an obligation to the company regulation and the requirement of National Maritime Safety Authority, everyone boarding the company’s ferry must have his/her name on the manifest,” Buai said.
Ramu NiCo’s administration department at Basamuk and Madang are responsible for the issuing of tickets to passengers, mostly Ramu NiCo employees going for their break or returning to work.
The tickets are issued on approval by the section heads.
