An independent investigation team was in Madang last week to probe the alleged shooting of a man in Bogia district by former Madang police station commander Insp Vincent Isanda.
Madang  police commander Supt Jacob Singura said the investigation team from Goroka arrived and began investigations last Monday and were to have formally arrested Isanda by the end of the week.
Singura said relatives of the deceased from Suaru village arrived at Jomba police station last Thursday in truck loads and demanded Isanda’s arrest.
He said they were assured of the independent investigation followed by the arrest and were told to return.
Isanda was formally suspended from official police duty last Monday for 21 days while undergoing investigations.
Singura said Isanda was alleged to have shot and killed a man in Bogia two weeks ago when the man was returning from his garden.
He said the deceased’s relatives reported that the men was returning from his garden when he was met by Isanda who was driving from Bogia to town alone.
Singura said the two may have had an argument that made Isanda angry and he shot the deceased and killed him.
He said the public would know the truth of the alleged shooting once the investigation was completed.
