POLICE have completed investigations into the death and wounding of Hanuabada villagers in the National Capital District, NCD-Central Metropolitan Supt Andy Bawa says.

He said he would submit the investigation report to headquarters for the Coroner’s Inquest to conduct its own investigation as requested by the villagers.

Bawa said there were two incidents that led to the death of two villagers and wounding of others.

There was an investigation into villagers allegedly attacking the NCD Commission’s reserve police who went to the village to enforce the betel nut ban on Jan 23.

There was also an investigation into the fatal shooting of the two villagers and the wounding of another two, allegedly by police.

Police had collected statements from witnesses in both incidents and the ballistic test reports in connection with firearms.

It was alleged that a police vehicle loaded with armed policemen went into the village and started destroying the market, smashing vendors’ eskies and assaulting mothers and the people selling at the market.

The youths in the area saw the manner in which police conducted themselves and intervened.

In retaliation, policemen open fired.
