Simbu man wins international award for leadership

THE World of Children has announced Jimmy Drekore from Chimbu as the 2016 World of Children Award winner for his leadership of the  Simbu Children’s Foundation. He is the foundation’s president.
The World of Children is an organisation dedicated to setting the standard in child advocacy.
Drekore was recognised for his leadership of the Simbu Children Foundation, an organisation that provides education and medical treatment to the sick and disadvantaged children in Chimbu.
Winners or honorees who have been recognised as “Nobel Prize for Advocates” will also receive a grant to help their programme and impact the lives of more children.
Drekore’s award comes with a minimum US$50,000 (K156,000) grant over three years.
Drekore is committed to using his funding to provide more paediatric cardiac patients the opportunity to access CT scans and heart surgery in Port Moresby.
The World of Children Health Award recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to children in the areas of health, medicine and sciences.
Executive director of World of Children Award Lynn Naylor said Drekore was an inspiration to them.
“We are thrilled to be honouring him in his work,” Naylor said.
“We hope that, in addition to our funding, winning this award brings much more attention to his work – his is a story we think everyone should hear.”
Drekore will join World of Children Awards and four other winners from around the world in New York on Oct 27 at the award ceremony.
He will share his work with guests, including 450 individuals from top firms in the fashion, retail, finance and insurance industries.
World of Children Award receives thousands of nominations from almost 100 countries annually and uses a rigorous vetting process to select honorees, including an onsite investigation and independent audit of each finalist.
