DEPUTY Prime Minister and Regional Member for East New Britain Sir Leo Dion has congratulated Archbishop Sir John Ribat on his recent elevation to the title of cardinal by Pope Francis.
In a statement yesterday, Sir Leo said the appointment not only reflected the maturity of Christianity in the country but also the growing world attention to PNG as a growing nation in the Oceania region.
“To the Catholic Bishops Conference in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands and all Christians, I acknowledge your ongoing support to the work of the different church denominations and their leadership.
“On behalf of the people of East New Britain and indeed all Christians in PNG, I extend my message of great joy and congratulations to Cardinal Sir John Ribat MSC on this historic Papal announcement of the highest stature in the Catholic Church history in PNG,” Sir Leo said.
