Sir Puka to attend UN meetings

PUBLIC Service Minister Sir Puka Temu will represent Prime Minister Peter O’Neill at the 71st regular session of the UN General Assembly from today to Sunday in New York.
Sir Puka is expected to attend a series of high-level segment meetings organised by the United Nations.
He said these meetings would focus on and include large movements of refugees and migrants, its root causes and drivers.
“They will also highlight the positive contributions of migrants and international action and cooperation on issues related to displacement of people globally,” Sir Puka said.
“Also discussed will be a global compact for responsibility-sharing for refugees with a call for respect for international law and safe, regular and orderly migration towards realising the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development and achieving full respect for human rights of migrants.”
