INFORMATION Technology is a very important tool for businesses and professions, says PNG Computer Society president Edward Silva.
“IT is everywhere, without IT nothing is working today. Doctors cannot work, accountants cannot work, engineers cannot work and even the bank will not work,” Silva said.
During the annual Information and Communication Technology expo last Friday in Port Moresby, Silva told The National that IT personnel in every organisation should join the society.
He said they had around 200 members and is now encouraging interested IT students and personnel to become a member of the PNG computer society.
He is also inviting IT students to be part of the society because students can play a big role in the development of IT in PNG.
National Information and Communication Authority NICTA manager International Affairs Jackson Kariko said there were 13 internet service providers in the country.
“Nicta will watch the market closely to support government objectives in terms of growing the market,” said Kariko.
Secondary school students in Port Moresby attended the expo.
