Solomon Islands Prime Minister, delegates visit Koki fish market

Good ideas from Papua New Guinea can be taken to the Solomon Islands, says Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.
“I am happy to be here and now we can bring back these good ideas to be implemented in Solomon Islands,” Sogavare said.
He made the comments after visiting the new Koki fish market with Port Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko yesterday.
Sports Minister Tkatchenko, who took Sogavare for a tour around the market, explained how the place enabled people from Wanigela and other villages to sell their sea produce in a safe and clean environment.
“The place is made from concrete and timber to avoid rust and hopefully will be around to provide a good marketing facility for years to come,” Tkatchenko said.
Sogavare was accompanied by his wife, Amy, and a small delegation from the Solomon Islands High Commission and foreign service officers from the PNG Foreign Affairs Department.
Koki market manager, Geelong Auma thanked  Tkatchenko and said that the market has brought employment opportunities to the community since its opening.
“This market is a big opportunity for people here and as it begins to expand we can expect people to be more self-reliant,” Auma said.
He also appealed to the residents of National Capital District to maintain cleanliness when visiting the market.
“It’s a unique and the first of its kind market and we should take pride in it and look after it.”
