EASTERN Highlands Governor Julie Soso has presented K150,000 to the Goroka campus of International Training Institute recently.
The money was to subsidise Eastern Highlands students studying information technology and business management courses at the International Training Institute (ITI) Goroka campus opposite Mount Sion Inclusive Education Centre outside the town.
Governor Soso’s first secretary Uno Konisimo stood in for the only female governor in the country to hand over the cheque to the institute’s marketing manager John Sali.
Konisimo said this was the second K150,000 from Governor Soso; she had paid the first K150,000 last year to support 98 students.
“This year the support of another K150,000 is going for 460 students from Eastern Highlands,” he said.
“The amount would be shared equally among all.”
Konisimo said the establishment of ITI campus in Goroka was an initiative of Governor Soso to provide a second chance to school leavers from the province.
“Every year 17,000 Grade 12 students are leaving school but only 5000 have spaces in tertiary institutions.”
