Steamships brings in Kopi Chief

STEAMSHIPS Coastal Shipping’s newly-built vessel is expected to arrive in the country next month.
The Kopi Chief is the first fully-double hull landing craft to be deployed in Papua New Guinea.
It meets the highest pollution prevention standards, complying with International
Maritime Organisation Tier II emissions standards.
The vessel has accommodation meeting Australian maritime standards, which includes en-suite cabins and a gymnasium, ensuring comfort and safety for crew.
The vessel is at the shipyard in Sibu, Malaysia, and her arrival would enable Coastal Shipping to further improve the efficiency of its services.
Steamships general manager Andy Cummings said the company owned and operated 17 vessels, including barges and tugs.
Cummings said the addition of the Kopi Chief to the fleet would contribute significantly to service delivery and demonstrated Steamships’ commitment to improving PNG shipping standards for the benefit of the environment, its people and its customers.
“Kopi Chief will be manned with Steamships Shipping’s PNG citizen officers and our team leaves the country shortly for Malaysia to take the vessel for sea trials,” he said. “We are sure our sea-going team will be as proud as we are for this new vessel to join the PNG registered fleet.”
