Civil Aviation Minister Davis Steven yesterday commended the PNG Air Investigation Commission (PNGAIC) for its achievements since 2000 despite funding shortages.
Steven, during the launching of the commission’s corporate plan and priorities at The Stanley Hotel and Suites in Port Moresby, said he was happy with PNGAIC’s new laboratory that was launched in January.
“Having two such occasions this year shows how well we are progressing in accident investigations in PNG,” Steven said.
“As the minister responsible, it gives me great pleasure to say that.
“This (launching) is another milestone for an organisation that’s developing quickly and making a major contribution to aviation safety in PNG and overseas.”
Steven assured that ample funding for the commission would be catered for in the supplementary budget.
PNGAIC chief executive officer Captain David Inau said the purpose of the plan was to communicate the commission’s vision, mission and goals.
“PNG aviation environment is well known for its operational challenges and these increases the risk of aircraft accidents and serious incidents,” Inau said.
Transport Secretary Roy Mumu was among other government officials who attended the launching.
