A LONG-serving staff of Lae’s Medical Store was farewelled last Friday by the management and staff to acknowledge his service.
Runja Daven, from Markham in Morobe, had served for 49 years under nine managers.
He was 12 when he started working in 1967. He worked his way up to be a supervisor at the supply section.
Malcolm Sabak, the store’s technical adviser, thanked Daven for his service, discipline, commitment and honesty.
Daven said he never had a formal education but dedicated himself to his work.
“I love my job,” he said.
“During my younger years, I used to give my best and work extra hard because there were fewer staff and we had deliver all the medical orders on time.”
He recalled that a stranger had introduced him to an expatriate who was the store manager at that time.
“I love serving the people,” Daven said. “I am planning to serve for
four more years because it seems
that I have just started work yesterday.”
The Lae medical store supplies pharmaceutical products to health centres and hospitals in Morobe, Madang, Eastern Highlands, Northern and Manus.
