EVERYONE has a bucket list – things they wish to accomplish before reaching a certain age. Attaining a Master of Business Administration degree in finance and marketing from a foreign university is now a tick-off for Dorothy Kantz’s bucket list.
Twenty-eight-year old Kantz is from Jiwaka and East Sepik. She did her primary and secondary education in Jiwaka where she was selected from Fr Peter Secondary School into Divine Word University in 2009. She graduated with a degree in business management and went on to work as a loans officer with the National Development Bank in Wewak for three years.
Unlike some young women her age, she wanted the best in her career so she resigned in 2015 to pursue her studies in India after her family agreed to meet all the costs.
“I loved my job but I wanted to excel in what I do, that’s where I took up finance and marketing as my specialisation,” Kantz said.
Two years of long nights and very spicy food paid off in June when she graduated with an MBA in finance and marketing from Visvesvaraya Technological University.
Dedicating the achievement to her family, especially her late young brother, Kantz said she would not have done it without the grace of God and the sacrifice made by special people in her life.
“It was a real sacrifice for my family in the past 24 months for ensuring I achieve my dream of doing my master’s degree.”
Kantz returns this month with interest to pursue a career with international development banks. She also wants to give back to her family for making her dream a reality.
“It was always my dream to attain the highest degree in business and create a long-lasting and interesting career in the banking industry and maybe one day land a job as a stockbroker,” she said.
