A STUDENT is on the run after trying to assault two children outside Wagang village in Morobe on Sunday afternoon.
He is alleged to have tried to kill a boy, believed to be aged 10, so that he could rape his younger sister.
The incident happened near Sipaia beach where the two children were swimming.
Police went to an institute where the student was studying on Tuesday but he had fled. The children’s father Peter Lomo, who reported the incident to the police on Monday, said the student lured the children to the bush on the pretext of offering them coconut juice.
“They followed without thinking that he would attack them until he was acting strangely that made them realise that he was about to commit a serious crime on them,” he said.
He said the student slashed the boy on the arm but the boy managed to escape. The student panicked and fled.
“I want justice to take its course. The attacker should be arrested and charged,” Lomo said.
