Students find bombs under roots of tree

POLICE have warned people living at 10-Mile in Lae to stay clear of the area where two bombs were found.
The explosives were discovered last Wednesday protruding from under the roots of a fallen tree along Markham Road.
Metropolitan Superintendent Antonie Wagambie Jnr is warning the people to steer clear of the area until members of Defence Force remove the bombs.
Police have cordoned off the area.
He said there were a lot of such war relics found in the province from World War Two.
Vendor Jerry Sakwo said the bomb was found inside the roots of a fallen tree near the road side after continuous rain.
Sakwo said students from a nearby school were passing by when they spotted the tip of the bomb protruding from under the roots beside the main highway.
“We thought it was just a gas cylinder,” he said.
Leaders in the area reported the matter to the authorities. Military officers came to inspect and took the smaller one away. They will remove the other one later.
