THE New Ireland Students Association in has thanked Namatanai MP Walter Schnaubelt for funding the annual New Ireland Day in Port Moresby.
Association president Jubilee Tamaliu said it was the first an MP had funded the event.
Schnaubelt through his Walter’s Farmers Association paid the hiring of Constitutional Park for K6900 and the PA system for K4400.
Tamaliu said they had been seeking funding assistance from companies and the provincial government but most did not bother to respond.
“We decided to write to the Namatanai MP and our letter of appeal was delivered to his office in the morning,” Tamaliu said.
“In the evening, we got a call from his office to bring in the quotation and funds were made available.”
Schnaubelt said he would continue to support the New Ireland Day as it promoted their cultural identity.
