ALL Port Moresby men’s Super League soccer matches on Saturday were washed-out due to heavy rain at the Bisini Soccer ground.
Port Moresby soccer association president Russel Tsuga said the matches would be rescheduled during the season.
He however was very impressed with the matches played on Sunday.
The highlight of the weekend was the upset win by Rigo Melo YMC over the star-studded Spartans 3-1.
Despite Spartans boasting the services of top line players who were making their comeback to club soccer, the Rigo boys outsmarted them with long-balls and speed to score three goals.
In the other matches, POMSOE led by Lab Embel and Cyril Muta silenced their critics with a 4-0 drubbing of PS Rutz.
Despite having John Baulo, Paul Kamboi and Frank Tulem, PS Ruts need to seriously look at younger players to stay competitive in the competition. Of the three players, Tulem kept his NSL form and played strongly for the team.
Striker Lap Embel scored two goals and skipper Samson Poesi scored one to put them in the comfortable zone in the opening half.
Embel scored in the 17th minute and two minutes later, he picked up the double while Poesi gave them a breather at the 42nd minute.
In the second half, Hekari United junior player Brett Seriba scored in the 71st minute to cushion their lead and eventually won the match 4-0.
In another match, Mungkas downed Yamaros 3-1.
The washed-out matches were PS Ruts-University and Cosmos-Defence games.
In the women’s division, POMSOE beat PS Ruts 2-1, Guria downed Lamana 2-0, Spartans thrashed YMC 8-1 while the fired-up Yamaros edged Mungkas 2-1.
