INDEPENDENCE Day should be an occasion for celebration but also for soul-searching and distinguishing what makes an individual a Papua New Guinean, Sir Nagora Bogan says.
The University of Technology Chancellor was chief guest yesterday at the Coca-Cola Papua New Guinea Limited celebration in Lae.
Bogan told the employees to carry the flag of Papua New Guinea and contribute to national development.
“The question that should be asked in the minds of every individual is what does it take to be a Papua New Guinean,” he said.
“It is time to reflect on what you as an individual can contribute back into your family, clan, community and country as a whole.
“To be born and bred as a Papua New Guinean is a gift that God has given us to empower and inspire other people to rise and to make a difference in our tribes.
“God has created us equal despite the different cultures and people.
“Unity is the backbone of the country and today is about the freedom we have.
“We should put back valuable contributions to the people in our lives and Papua New Guinea.
“Oneness, unity, peace and equality are the virtues of democracy.”
Papua New Guineas have been urged to embrace, reflect and celebrate the achievements of our country.
