PAPUA New Guinea were no match for Tasmania in their latest 50-over cricket match, losing by 124 runs in Maroochydore, Queensland on Wednesday.
Tasmania, featuring Australian players Ben Dunk, Alex Doolan, Tim Paine, James Faulker and Cameron Boyce batted first on another fine day in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland.
In their best bowling display of the tour so far, the Hebou PNG Barramundis got off to a magnificent start, reducing a strong Tasmanian outfit to 62/4 in 15.2 overs when Alei Nao bowled Beau Webster for 40 runs.
Then a 100-run partnership between Doolan (81) and Simon Milenke (49) took the momentum away from the Barramundis before late order hitting from Paine (21), Faulkner (31 not out) and Nick Buchanan (12 not out) took Tasmania to 261/7.
Despite some lower order fightback by wicketkeeper Jack Vare (35) and allrounder John Boge Reva (22), the Barramundis were unable to get on top of the Tasmanian bowlers and were eventually bowled out for 137 in 38.5 overs.
Speaking to Cricket PNG after the loss, Hebou PNG Barramundis Coach, Jason Gillespie was able to take some positives out of the defeat to the Tasmania.
