Teacher charged with allegedly raping student

A SCHOOL teacher in Manus was arrested and charged for allegedly raping a 13-year old female student.
Acting provincial police commander Senior Inspector David Yapu said the incident occurred recently at the Baso Primary School at Lou Island in the Balopa LLG of Lorengau.
The suspect, Kauyap Pondos, 25, of Mbunai village in Penabu LLG, Lorengau, was charged with two counts of sexual penetration and abuse of trust and was expected to appear in the Lorengau District Court for mention this week.
It was alleged that the teacher followed the girl into the school storeroom, locked the door and forced her to undress and he sexually penetrated her without her consent, Yapu said.
The girl later revealed the incident to her fellow student friends and the matter was reported to police which resulted in the arrest of the teacher.
