WAIGANI Committal Court magistrate Cosmas Bidar says sexual offence has become a common issue that occurs everyday in the PNG society.
He related his comment on a case of an elementary school teacher, Simon Aihau, 39 from Gulf who appeared in court charged with two counts of sexual penetration and sexual touching.
He was alleged to have sexually penetrated a girl, 6, who was a preparatory pupil at a National Capital District (NCD) school.
“Such cases for your information are common offences, especially in NCD,” Bidar said.
“Almost every day we deal with the case of sexual penetration or touching that involve girls or women most of the time and sometimes little boys or children still breast feeding.”
Police alleged that on Aug 4 between 2.30pm and 3pm  Aihau, the victim’s teacher, told the girl to stay back and sweep the classroom.
While she was sweeping, the teacher came from behind and touched her buttocks and inserted his figures into her private parts.
The victim reported the matter to the mother and it was later reported to the police who then apprehended the accused.
The accused was granted a bail of K500 and will appear again for mention at the committal court on Oct 5.
