Teachers advised to be in class on Monday

EDUCATION Secretary Dr Uke Kombra has directed all teachers engaged in general election duties to return to work next Monday.
He commended the teachers and students who had started term three on Monday, saying it was important that students attending schools in the national education system meet the approved instructional hours to be eligible for graduation, and to sit for the grade 7, grade 10 and grade 12 examinations.
He warned teachers to be at the schools to perform their teaching and other curricular duties.
“All teachers and heads of schools engaged in general election-related duties, especially counting, are hereby instructed to cease election duties to be able to resume your required duties at your respective schools as of Monday, July 17,” Kombra said in the circular.
He advised election managers to release teachers involved in the election and make alternative arrangements to cover for them.
He said schools being used for election purposes must be vacated by Sunday, so that classes could start on Monday.
“All inspectors are now instructed to ensure all the teachers in their respective provinces and inspectoral zones comply with this instruction,” he said.
“Teachers who fail to comply with must be reported to the provincial education adviser and the assistant secretary for payroll for immediate suspension from the payroll by inspectors.”
