TELIKOM PNG’s high-capacity network has been completed with all links carrying live traffic to offer a more efficient and reliable performance to customers.
A company statement said the network (HCN) had been designed to deliver more capacity and improve reliability by offering seamless broadband experience to users.
“Resource companies operating in the LNG (liquefied natural gas) corridors plus remote and rural communities in the rugged terrains that rely heavily of satellite communications can now have access to this national transmission link,” the statement said.
“The first phase was made operational before the 2015 Pacific Games to carry all the free wi-fi traffic as a test run and has passed all the mandatory technical test.
Paose Are, Telikom PNG manager radio project said while engineers continued to tweak and optimise the links for optimal performance, redundancy testing carried out had so far produced positive results.
He said emphasis was now on completing the microwave link between Lae and Madang to complete the microwave ring.
He said the team last week handed over the network documentations to the regional network teams in Goroka, Mt Hagen, Lae and Madang following the completion of the project.
