THE Koiari Rugby League ended one of their best grand finals at the Iarowari High School oval recently.
This was due to the fact that it was mostly trouble-free, with minor isolated incidents between supporters which did not take any bearing on the finals.
In the A grade division Rux Tigers beat Ice Panthers 18-8 in a bone crunching battle of the Upper and Lower Sogeri teams.
The Tigers upset the minor premiers in front of a capacity crowd which included Kairuku-Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo and PNG Hunters Adam Korave and Bland Abavu.
The visitors’ presence lifted the morale of the local league talents.
The Tigers were the better team of the afternoon, scoring tries through Elijah Yori, Aramo Benson, Korohi Degini and goals to Yori and Benson to keep the opposition from gaining any momentum.
Arthur Francis scored and converted the Panthers’ solo try and Thomas Ray kicked a penalty goal.
Tigers picked up K4000 and Panthers settled for K2000 while the man of the match won K1000 from MP Isoaimo.
Minor premiers Ice Panthers received K700.
