TRAFFIC police in Port Moresby expect to receive 23 motorcycles next month in preparations for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit next year.
Officer in charge of traffic Philip Koliadi said the bikes were bought by the Australia Federal Police to assist in the escorting of world leaders attending the summit.
“We have about 23 (600CC models) already purchased by AFP but the balance is expected to come from the police department or from Apec authorities,” he said
“We need to have about 80 motorbikes for 80 riders.”
The officers began their training last week and would continue every week until they had mastered the skill.
“I thank the AFP for starting the training last week to up-skill the riders. But we need more training for them to get familiar with the skills. When the time comes we can give the best we have to the leaders.”
