THREE men, who were allegedly involved in raping a 10-year-old girl were apprehended by angry relatives of the victim and castrated before handing them to police yesterday.
National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Benjamin Turi said the incident happened at Sabama.
“The girl went missing at 4pm on Tuesday  when she went to fetch water,” Turi said.
“Relatives put out a search party and found her being raped by five men. Turi said the relatives captured three of them and two escaped.
He said the three men were beaten by relatives and cut with bush knives before being handed over to the police.
“I cannot confirm if they were castrated as they had blood all over them,” Turi said.
“Badili police could not respond as all their vehicles were at a workshop so Boroko police went down with an ambulance and took the  girl and the three suspects to the Port Moresby emergency.”
“The three suspects are in hospital and so as the 10-year-old.”
Turi said the matter was now with the Crime Investigating Division (CID).
The incident closely follows the  rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in New Ireland and a three-year-old girl in Eastern Highlands.
