Trivedy backs State to address gender-based violence

THE Government is committed to addressing gender-based violence and promoting women empowerment in the country, says UN resident coordinator Roy Trivedy.
Trivedy said the Government had made a huge commitment led by Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari and all secretaries and “it is a really fantastic achievement”.
“The Department for Community Development and sponsors have also been doing a lot of work around gender-based violence,” he said.
“There is a new strategy which the Government is about to launch.”
Trivedy said the department and partners were preparing to use the Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup as a platform to raise issues on gender-based violence.
He said the recent appointment of child protection officers was a huge step in stressing the importance of protecting children.
Community Development Secretary Anna Solomon said the lack of coordination was a hindrance.
