Trivedy challenges private, public sectors

PNG em mi yah – the country’s slogan in pursuing the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) – starts with everyone and should be owned by all, UN resident coordinator Roy Trivedy told participants of an SDG awareness workshop last week.
Trivedy in his closing remarks at the two-day workshop, challenged the private sector and the civil society organisations and government agencies to start right away on the SDGs.
“Don’t wait for anybody else; it’s got to start with us. We’re going to make sure that PNG citizens are right at the forefront by harnessing our collective power.
“This is the start of that long journey; with Department of National Planning and Monitoring’s support and leadership we are going to improve coordination.
“Start now with what you already have, build the connections with others and be inclusive, you’ve got some amazing talented organisations and institutions represented.”
Trivedy said the department would bring key people together regularly and try to and help to get the road map.
He said that businesses, civil societies, the churches and all of the organisations have a vital role so as the Government leadership and the international community.
“Let’s not wait for all these things to be perfect, let’s start from where we are and make those connections with our people.
“This is a Papua New Guinean movement; make sure it doesn’t become a Port Moresby movement, we have to get the message out to every part of our country. That’s why the media is so important, the journalists are so important, you are the connectors for all of these bringing people together creating those kinds of help in the movement to move on.”
