EIGHT Correctional Services cadets including two women are undergoing training at the Joint Forces College in Lae.
The cadet programme is an initiative by the government to have all the disciplined forces officers trained in one location.
Acting Commissioner Stephen Pokanis thanked Assistant Commissioner Michael Mosiri and his team for making the programme successful.
He thanked the UPNG Open Campus for partnering with the department to deliver the programme to the cadets.
Pokanis said the Correctional Services planned to convert its training college into a Correctional School of Excellence.
The cadets will be undergoing this programme in the next three months. It is a competency-based programme which will be coordinated by lecturers from UPNG.
After the programme, the cadets will be sent to do “on the job training” in correctional institutions before their graduation.
