U20s getting up to speed as Fifa tournament nears

PAPUA New Guinea U20 women soccer players have used their school holidays to improve on their game training and skill practice.
Coach Lisa Cole said with no school last week, the players took the opportunity to focus on functional training, with emphasis on players getting adept at game speed.
“In the afternoon, we tried to put that into practice with the demands of the game.”
She said that it was an enjoyable and good week for the women. “There has been a lot of individual improvement from players,” Cole said.
She said they were now focused on team shape and how they were going to play their opponents.
“As we get closer to the event, it is important that we focus on doing the little things right and that each individual player understands their role in the game,” she said.
The majority of players have made big improvement since they returned from their two trips to South Korea and the US.
The team is now looking forward for the last trip to New Zealand where they will play some friendly matches before the actual event in November.
She said the games in New Zealand would be really important as the coaching staff would gauge the team’s improvement since going into camp.
