Upgrading of Madang roads to be tendered

THE K150 million contract for the upgrading of the Madang town road into four lanes is to be tendered next week, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said in Madang last week.
O’Neill was in Madang to open a new wing of the Madang Resort when he made the announcement in the presences of Madang Governor Jim Kas, media and the business community.
He said the Government had plans to prepare the town before the 2018 Asia Pacific Economic Conference (Apec) began and would begin with road upgrading.
“In the last six to seven months, we have some experts in town and they have done scoping,” O’Neill said.
“Next week, we are going to tender and before the end of the year, we are going to announce the contractor who will rebuild the Madang town roads.
“We are going to start this road project this year and not next year.”
O’Neill said Madang would play a key role in the hosting of the Apec meeting.
“Apart from the leaders’ meeting, we will be hosting the second most important meeting of the Apec. Apec will have 200 meetings and most of the meetings will be held in Madang,” O’Neill said.
He said the most important of the meetings would be the senior officers’ meeting (SOM) which would include 300-400 people coming to attend including our own national officials.
“So we are looking at close to a thousand people in your town in one day,” O’Neill said.
