Uphold parental duty, says Gore

PARENTS must not neglect their children because it is their duty and responsibility to look after them, Youth, Religion and Community Development Minister Delilah Gore says.
She told the children bi-annual forum which coincided with the International Children’s Day that the Lukautim Pikinini Act 2015 stressed parental responsibility towards a child.
“While the Government and partners work to improve the lives of our children, the preferred environment for the care and upbringing of a child is in his/her own family,” Gore said.
“The responsibility for the care and protection of children rest primarily with their biological parents.
“The children’s bi-annual forum is a requirement under the Lukautim Pikinini Act.”
She said children must be given the opportunity to express their views freely.
“Children must be able to grow up in a safe and happy environment with their parents.
“Let’s allow them to contribute to the nation building,” Gore said.
