UPNG holds career expo

BEING aware of employee requirements of an organisation prepares students for the workforce when they graduate, University of Papua New Guinea career coordinator Dika Iru says.
Iru, who coordinated a two-day career expo at the university’s Waigani campus from Nov 16-17, said the event was important especially for the final-year students.
he expo theme was ‘Networking and empowering’.
“This means we want to network with organisations and build relationship for continuous partnership so that every year we invite them to give our students the benefit of understanding what practical job out there is like,” Iru said.
He said many students who had their eyes set on seeking employment with a particular organization were not confident with their choice because they were not aware of its requirements.
“Some of them do not really know the procedures, as most have not had any work experience, so they want to meet with them and ask them questions regarding requirements and whether they have cadet trainings or graduate programs.”
Director of Student Services Garua Peni said the expo was vital for students to get first-hand information from organisations to have fair idea about requirements.
