THE Kerema Basketball Association’s grand finals are on Sunday.
The finals feature minor premiers Urban Fox taking on Kerema Coronation Secondary School.
President Aisi Aua said the association had invited Gulf Governor Havila Kavo, sponsor Alex Hearo, Gulf provincial sports coordinator Ake Maeaoka and Basketball Federation Papua New Guinea executives to witness the final.
He said his association executives had also asked for two certified referees from Port Moresby to control the final but their involvement was yet to be confirmed.
In the men’s main decider, Urban Fox will rely heavily on Akia Brothers Michael, Jack and Kevin as well as Tony Steven  to call the shots against United’s livewire Jason Rodney, Mauru brothers Gerard and Simeon, along with Samson Kavoi, to lead their vaunted defensive game.
In the women’s final, KCSS’s Under-18 representative Elizabeth Saroa, Dairy Rodney and Rebecca Ipai will take on premiership favourites Urban Fox, who have Pipi Akia, Talary John and Serah Akia.
The finals are likely to go down to the wire as both teams are determined to walk away with this year’s premierships and create history for the association after 10 years in the doldrums.
Aua called on the teams and their fans to ensure a trouble-free grand final day because the competition had only been revived in Kerema this year.
