THE United States of America is proud to work with Papua New Guinea in strengthening resilience to the impacts of climate change, an official says.
Catherine Ebert-Gray is the US ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.
She attended the signing of a new bilateral assistance agreement between the two governments.
The US Agency for International Development is providing US$1.5 million (K4.8 million) to strengthen PNG’s environmental resilience to climate change.
She said the funding was the first tranche of about US$7.5 million (K23.8 million) package over five years –  subject to fund availability – to support PNG’s priorities in biodiversity conservation, natural resource management and climate change adaptation.
“The US Government and the American people are proud to stand with the PNG Government in strengthening the country’s environmental resilience,” Ebert-Gray said.
“This agreement demonstrates the commitment of the American people to invest in the security and sustainable economic growth of PNG.”
