Vailima secure three finals

THREE out of four Vailima teams have made it to Saturday’s National Capital District Volleyball Association finals at the Taurama Aquatic Centre.
Vailima were victorious 3-2 over Vanama in the men’s premier division, in the women’s premier they edged Ela Motors 3-2, and in the women’s A grade they beat MJ Electrical U-Mi Yet 3-2.
The only club in NCD Volleyball Association that did better in the past by entering all four teams in the grand final were PTC (Telikom) in 1993.
U-Mi Yet did it in 2009, entering all four teams and managed to win three out of four and Juma repeated the same in 2013 when they had four in the grand final but won only one game.
The match against Vanama in the men’s premier division was closely contested and went all the way to the tie-breaker.
Passing in reception and transition, setting and blocking was good on both sides, but the difference was the success rate in converting into kills at the net, where Vailima had the upper hand in the decider. Vailima will clash with Edatec Scorpions in the men’s premier final this weekend.
Vailima edged Ela Motors in the women’s premier division in the decider. They maintained their structure from start to finish where setter Bala Babaga maintained consistency, supported by good passing that enabled her to use their go-to player, Lois Garena, to the fullest at the net.
Garena was also solid in her passing and led with the number of kills at the net and she was followed by Patricia Gibson on statistics.  The motor dealers had the players capable of causing problems at net but made too many changes in their structural play.
This resulted in their defensive and offensive play collapsing and they lost momentum to fire at the business end of the match.
Vailima will play PTPSL Telikom in the big one on Saturday.
MJ Electrical U-Mi Yet beat Ela Motors 3-0 in the men’s A grade and will face Jamas in the final.
