THE new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE), Professor John Warren, says he is honoured to work with the people and for the people of the country.
“I do not believe that there is any other job that is as important as working here in the university,” he said.
“There are other industries in this country that are important like the extraction industry but they all come and go.
“You cannot fill your belly with copper, gold and petroleum.
“We are about sustainable food production, forestry and fisheries.”
Warren said it was important for the country to produce graduates with skills and knowledge to move the country forward through agriculture.
“This means that we must start exporting our food to the rest of the world,” he said.
“I don’t feel brave to come to PNG, I feel honoured because it is an exciting time for me.”
He said the challenge of climate change was also a big issue in the world affecting many industries.
Warren said while climate change was a concern for many countries, advancing technology had made it possible for modern genetics to help the agriculture industry survive.
