Two communities of North Lovongai local level government in New Ireland attended a workshop on Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management last week.

The workshop was aimed at building community resilience against climate-induced hazards and to guide the communities to adapt to the changes and with emphasis on disaster preparedness rather than disaster relief.

James Meleng, a retired health officer, said: “I am not happy with the poor attendance by this community.

“This project came to us at our door step as an opportunity and I am therefore calling on every member of this community who are able to, please make every effort to attend as we are privileged compared with other communities in PNG.”

The workshop was part of a pilot programme, projected in Milne Bay, East Sepik, Morobe, Madang and New Ireland and funded by the United Nation adaptation fund through the office of Climate Change.
