VISION City Mega Mall in Port Moresby is giving free gifts to more than 100 unfortunate children in the city, says marketing manager Maureen Esta.
She told The National that they began the “Wish upon a Christmas” annual initiative last year to share the Christmas spirit of giving and sharing happiness with the unfortunate ones.
“We have organisations writing to us nominating certain groups and children to present gifts to this Christmas,” Esta said.
She said they received many nominations but selected only two to present gifts to.
She said that for this year, they selected 102 children from the Caritas Technical Secondary School and 64 settlement children from the Office of the Street Ministry.
“We have written out their names and put them in banners that were displayed within the mall in certain shopping booths.”
Esta said when customers went into to any of those booths to purchase goods, they would select a name of the children to buy a present for. “Wish upon a Christmas, is Vision City Mega Mall’s annual community initiative in collaboration with other sponsors to give back to the less fortunate children of Port Moresby,” she said.
“All you have to do is select at least one child’s name and grant them their wish written on the banners by purchasing their gift from any of the shop in Vision City Mega Mall or you could bring your own pre-wrapped gift from home. Just write the child’s name on it and pass on to the info counter ladies at the main entrance of the mall.”
Esta said they had invited singers and dancers in their weekly programme to announce and celebrate the gift-giving spirit in the mall.
They also have the public participate in some of the give-away Christmas games.
Esta said Christmas initiatives were happening every Saturday at the mall and commended all their sponsors including Cherish Boutique, Jack’s of PNG, Kids World, Toys Kingdom, Star Office Works, Sinowell and Huawei.
Gifts from individuals will be accepted until Friday.
