THE Teaching Service Commission has assured teachers they will receive their 10% increases in their second pay.

Chairman Baran Sori said their first pay (of the year) last week, included only the base salary of 7.5%, which was the public service salary increment.

“The other 2.5%, which is the teachers’ increment, will be included in their second pay,” he said.

He said their salaries were monitored by the commission and would be delivered by the Department of Finance.

Sori said the general perception of teachers was not someone in the classroom with a bunch of children, but someone who developed a young person’s mind and the human resource of the country.

“Teachers help the child to grow his or her intelligent and that makes teaching very important and the government recognises that teachers are important people and because of these factors, the government has increased teachers’ salary,” Sori said.

He said their salaries and other allowances increased to the rural remote allowance which had gone from K2000 to K4000.

“We’ve acknowledged those who teach in rural remote schools because of their disadvantages and have increased their rural remote allowances which we will closely monitor,” Sori said.
